Pool fencing

Pool fencing that passes, without walling the pool in

A pool barrier has one job before it has any other: to pass inspection and keep a small child out. We design and make ours to order so it does that, follows the shape of your paving, and still lets you see the water.

Compliance

What AS 1926.1 actually asks for

Height. The barrier must be at least 1200 mm measured on the outside, where a child would climb. We build 1250 mm as standard on our Batten style so there is margin above the minimum, and we set the height to the finished ground on sloping sites.

Nothing to climb. Vertical members are the point. There is no horizontal rail at mid height to use as a foothold, and the non climbable zone stays clear.

No gap over 100 mm. Anywhere in the barrier, including at the ends of runs, at gates and at the ground.

The gate. Self closing and self latching from any position, opening away from the pool, with the latch out of a child's reach.

Western Australia. WA requires four sided isolation fencing around a private pool, and local governments inspect barriers on a rolling cycle. We build to the standard and supply the paperwork a certifier asks for.

Gates

Gates do most of the failing

On a non compliant pool fence, the gate is usually the reason. It has to close and latch from any position it is left in, swing away from the pool, and latch high enough to be out of reach. We build gates to match the fence, in the same style and colour, and supply them with self closing, self latching hardware rated for pool duty, so what your installer hangs is already set up to comply.

If your fence is fine and the gate is not, we can build a gate to suit an existing run. Send a photo of what is there.

Material

It is chlorine and salt that kill a pool fence

Around the water, a fence is judged on how it ages. Aluminium does not rust, and it does not care about chlorine splash or salt air the way coated steel does, where one scratch or a cut edge is enough to start it. We powder coat inside and out and use marine grade stainless fixings on pool and coastal work.

Maintenance is a hose, more often near the coast, and a mild detergent if a film builds up. No oiling, no painting, no rust treatment.

Made to order

Built around your pool, not around a panel size

Pool surrounds are the least standard fences we make. Paving steps, a return to the house wall, a plinth on one side and ground level on the other, a curved edge to follow. We draw the run first, then set panel widths, heights and gate positions to it, so the barrier holds a straight top line and a consistent gap along its whole length.

Curved sections are formed to a true radius rather than faceted from short straight lengths, and they hold the same spacing and height as the straight runs they join, so following the pool edge does not cost you compliance.

Styles

More than one way to fence a pool

Different styles suit different pools. A fine, open blade keeps the outlook. A deeper section with tighter spacing screens a neighbour. Some of our styles are original AFS designs. Tell us what the pool looks like and we will tell you which of ours we would put around it.

Questions
Is it compliant with AS 1926.1 pool safety standards?

Yes. Designed and built to comply with AS 1926.1: correct barrier height (minimum 1200 mm, we make 1250 mm as standard), non climbable spacing, and compatible safety hardware including self closing, self latching gate hardware. Built to pass council inspection first time.

Will the fence rust from pool water, chlorine or salt?

No. Aluminium with 316 marine grade stainless steel fasteners, it will not deteriorate from pool water, chlorine splash or salt air like coated steel, where one scratch or a cut edge is enough to start it. A UV resistant powder coat adds further protection.

Will my pool fence pass council inspection?

It is engineered to meet every requirement on the inspector's checklist: correct height, non climbable spacing, self closing and self latching gates, outward opening gates, and no gaps greater than 100 mm. Your inspector and building surveyor have the final say on the installed barrier, and professional installation is recommended for pool fencing.

Can the fence follow curved pool edges?

Yes, on the styles that curve. A curved section is formed to a true radius rather than faceted from short straight lengths, and it holds the same spacing and height as the straight runs it joins, so following the pool edge does not cost you compliance.

What does the 10 year warranty cover?

The structure and the powder coat finish. See the warranty and compliance page for the detail.

Do you install it?

No. We manufacture the fence and deliver it ready to install, and your builder, fencing contractor or landscaper puts it up. Panels arrive finished, with posts, base plates, fixings, gate hardware and the drawings to set it out from. If you do not have someone lined up, say so in your enquiry.

Book the inspection with confidence.

Send the pool, the paving and a rough perimeter length. We will draw the barrier, price it, and deliver it ready for your installer.
