How to choose between matte black, charcoals, off-whites and woodlook on an aluminium fence, by light, context and setting.
Finish is the quietest decision and the one that changes the fence most. Choose by what should lead: the line, or the view behind it.
A dark finish recedes. Matte black and the charcoals read as a shadow line and let the setting do the talking, which is why they are the most specified. A warm off-white like Surfmist does the opposite. It lifts the fence forward against dark planting or a dark facade, so the line itself becomes the feature.
Sheen decides how the metal behaves in sun. A matte finish stays flat and quiet through the day. A satin surface catches the light, so a glint passes along the verticals as the sun moves.
Site exposure sets the finish grade. Inland, an architectural powder coat is ample. On the coast or around a pool, we build with a marine grade powder coat and 316 stainless fixings, which carry the warranty in those conditions.
A finish can disappear into the building or stand against it. Match it to the window frames and the roof to read as one material, or contrast it deliberately as a feature line. A custom colour can be matched to a facade on request.
